Hi all,

We don't all just ride road bikes.  Many of us have MTBs as well.

Last year during lockdown, I started searching out new off-road routes to explore the Herts, Beds and Cambs countryside.  There are some fantastic by-ways and bridleways out there and it helps develop bike skills riding off-road. It made for a great bit of fun and I discovered some amazing locations along the way.

I'm interested to know if there are any other club members that would be interested in going off-road, either as part of dedicated a day out or maybe as an alternative to a Sunday ride?

For those wanting to venture further afield, we have dedicated trails such as Thetford Forest and neighbouring Brandon Country Park, Chicksands, Aspley Woods (by Woburn) and even the Hadleigh Olympic trails course!

All,

Sorry, but I won't be joining the Medium Steady group this Sunday.  Will hopefully be out with the (slightly more) Medium group instead (16mph).  If anyone wants to organise a ride for tomorrow in my absence, please add a comment below.

All,

The Medium-Rare group will be running a ride from THCP tomorrow morning.

Please contact Lorna on this thread if you are interested in joining the group for a cycle

Hi Richard,

I'd like to give the Medium 16mph group a try tomorrow, if that's ok with everyone else?  Route looks good to me.

We will be out as usual this Sunday for a ca. 15mph ride, departing from Town Hall Car Park (THCP).

Hopefully conditions should remain dry in the morning, but rain is forecast later in the day. Winds are expected to be super-gentle from the West (3-5mph), so we have an open choice for route!

Some suggestions to get us thinking:
- S5: 34.7 miles, 389m
- S3: 30.4 miles, 479m
- S18: 34 miles, 458m

Looking for a ride tomorrow at avg of 15mph.

Welcome for suggestions on route, but I’d personally be quite partial to a slice of cake at the Mill End Plants tea room.

Also willing to consider other coffee stops if anyone wants to propose alternatives!

Hi all,

Missed out on last week so looking forward to a ride on Sunday.

With strong southerly winds forecast, I quite fancy the idea of having it behind me when homeward bound. S10 looks like a good option. Bit more climbing than usual and I’m sure Therfield hill will beat me, but hey, I’m up for it!

Forecast for Sunday suggests light to breezy winds coming from the North West.  Anyone fancy riding S5 (34 miles; 389m climbing)?  Alternative would be the slightly shorter S2 (29 miles; 298m climbing).

As ever, speed would be average of 15mph +/- 0.5

Reply if interested.

Hi all,

Looking to ride reverse S6 tomorrow (31miles; 353m).  With strong North westerly winds forecast for tomorrow, this route would make the most of the wind behind us on the return home, and should yield some great Strava times belting down Croydon hill!

Let me know if you are interested.

Anyone fancy riding at around 15mph tomorrow?

Choices are M1 or S17. Winds forecast from the East so both would have wind assisted ride home.

Alternative would be to ride the S3 that the Steady group are looking to do, but a little quicker.
