This month’s Saturday Special is a 100 mile ride. We’re heading out to Suffolk but with a largely different route from that we rode last year, including new coffee and lunch stops. The route’s here - 100 mile Suffolk ride
There is also a shorter alternative to Debden Barns for a 36 mile ride. The route’s here - Route to Debden Barns
For both rides we’ll meet at the Heath Sports Club for an 8.30 am departure. There is ample free parking.
The 100 mile ride will suit members who can maintain an average pace of 15 mph over several hours. It is a long day in the saddle so please bring sufficient drink/food to maintain your energy levels as well as the usual spares and basic tools.
The pace for shorter route will likely be in the range of 12-14 mph.
Please do post on the forum if you plan to ride with us, particularly those intending to join the 100 mile route so that we can alert our lunch stop to the likely numbers.
Now all we need is for the weather to cooperate.

Hi Dave,
The current plan is Sturmer Nurseries for coffee http://www.sturmernurseries.co.uk (slight route diversion to access) and Assington Country Kitchen for lunch - https://assingtoncountrykitchen.co.uk
There are a number of options in Finchingfield for a break on the return leg. However, if anyone has a recommendation for alternatives close to the route please do post.
For lunch at Assington we will pre-order. I'll post details next week but meanwhile do have a look at their menu.

I’m up for it if there’s a suitably paced group

100 mile ride for me too

I can’t be out all day, so will come as far as coffee, then head back home. Probably around 60 miles.

I’m aiming to be out, but will peel off if dodgy knee gives way, or if you all go off too fast.

We are planning a 46 miler and will join you for part of the ride. We will meet you at the top of New Road with the rest of the Melbourn lot and will peel off at Ashdon just after Saffron Walden and head via linton/Fulbourn/cafecito for lunch. Anyone else fancying a shorter route at 16+ mph is welcome to join us
Thanks to Simon for the route! http://www.strava.com/routes/2767096989253838740

I plan to ride up to Elmdon, and meet you at bottom of Essex Hill. Looks like a scorcher.

I’m thinking 100 miles in 27C heat might be a bit much for me so I might join your 46 miler Georgie or Donna’s 60. See you at top of New Road at 8:30

I'll meet the Melbs. lot at the top of new road at 8.30 - I'll definitely be out, and have downloaded the 100 and Georgie's route - will see how fit I feel in the heat. See you all tomorrow.

Ray and I are planning to ride the Debden Barons 36 mile route on Saturday. If anyone would like to join us we are meeting at the Heath Sports Club for an 08:30 start. Probably c14mph but not much faster.
